Wedderburn sits just after (or before, depending on the direction you’re cycling) the highest point on the Otago Central Rail Trail. It has a great little hotel for refreshments and an honesty box based system up at the Wedderburn Lodge and Cottages Information Centre. This information centre is right beside the trail and has a wide array of interesting material for you to read and watch.
Wedderburn is also a gateway town to Naseby, the cute little gold mining town with a host of features like the Maniototo International Curling Rink, Swimming Dam (in summer), MTB trails through the forest and various historical displays. With two hotels, a cafe and a community run store it is remarkably well serviced. If you’re staying in Naseby then Wedderburn may be your pickup point, check your itinerary for details.
